Starting today, users of Immersed, VR work and collaboration app can create a Ready Player Me avatar with a selfie and use it to participate in virtual meetings and work side by side in a digital office space.
Even though the pandemic is coming to an end in many places worldwide, it has forever changed how and where we work. As a result, the world's biggest companies, including Amazon, Facebook, and Microsoft, embrace remote work and let their employees work from home. This shift is also present in the productivity tools market, where companies are experimenting with new, more interactive ideas for business apps. One of them is Immersed, a virtual reality tool for working in VR and remote collaboration. The company raised $12 million, and its partners include Facebook, HTC, and Microsoft.
Immersed lets you use your Windows PC, Mac, or Linux computer to work with your colleagues in a virtual office. With up to five virtual monitors, you can share multiple screens at once and brainstorm on whiteboards with your colleagues. If you want to be fully focused on your work, there's a Solo Mode where you can immerse yourself in one of the many available environments - whether it's an international coffee shop or on a spaceship orbiting high above the Earth.
Up until now, Immersed was available only on Oculus Quest headsets. Today, the company is extending its support to HTC VIVE Focus 3, with more standalone headsets coming in the future. Additionally, to ensure cross-platform compatibility, Immersed is introducing support for the selfie-based Ready Player Me avatars.
Ready Player Me is a 3D avatar platform used by over 200 developers, like VRChat, Mozilla Hubs, and LIV. Creating an avatar is as simple as taking a photo and customizing the character's appearance with different hairstyles, outfits, and more.
Starting today, you can create a Ready Player Me avatar with a selfie in the Immersed mobile app on Android or iOS and use it to hang out with your colleagues in a virtual office. Your avatar will also be visible if you're using the Immersed virtual Webcam on Zoom or Google Meet calls. You can even set up the webcam to show your virtual co-workers in a futuristic conference room together.
